Kingston Movie review: "Kingston: Rising Beyond the Waves"

Kingston (G. V. Prakash Kumar) hails from a fishing village near Thoothukudi. He initially works under Thomas, a local businessman, but soon discovers that Thomas is involved in drug smuggling. Disheartened by this revelation, Kingston chooses to leave his job, unwilling to be a part of illegal activities. However, like many in his village who struggle to find legitimate work, he, too, had once been drawn into smuggling, a fate that seemed inevitable in a community where the sea had long been abandoned out of fear.

Despite being a fishing village, the people have not ventured into the sea for many years, as they believe in a deadly curse—a greedy spirit that kills anyone who dares to sail. This deep-rooted fear has led many to seek alternative means of survival, often illegal ones. Kingston, too, had fallen into this cycle, but his conscience ultimately pushes him to break free. However, his past comes back to haunt him when his beloved girlfriend, Divya (Divya Bharathi), is kidnapped, setting off a chain of events that test his courage and determination.

In a desperate bid to save Divya, Kingston defies the village’s warnings and bravely sets out to sea. The villagers try to dissuade him, reminding him of the curse and the countless lives lost before him. Yet, he chooses to confront his fate head-on, determined to challenge the superstition that has held his community hostage for so long. Will Kingston return alive, or will he succumb to the same fate that has befallen others before him? His journey unfolds with intense action, gripping suspense, and emotional depth.
