Draupathi 2, directed by G. Mohan, is a historical drama set in contemporary India, focusing on the political struggles between the Madurai region and the Delhi Sultanates. The film highlights how rulers struggled to balance power, ambition, and survival during a turbulent period. The story mainly revolves around mediation, betrayal, and the constant threat faced by South Indian kingdoms from invading Sultanates.

The narrative gives importance to Hoysala Emperor Vallalar III, who uses strategic mediation to protect his kingdom from external forces. The film reminds viewers that history textbooks often focus on Delhi and northern regions, while Draupathi 2 brings attention to how South Indian territories were also targeted by Sultanate rulers. Though the film attempts to stay close to history, it also blends commercial elements to make the story engaging for a wider audience.

One of the strongest emotional aspects of the film is its portrayal of women’s sacrifices during ancient times. The movie shows how women were often ill-treated, yet remained strong. A powerful scene depicting a pregnant woman sacrificing her life for her unborn child’s future leaves a deep impact and highlights the painful realities faced by women during that era.

Richard Rishi delivers a committed performance as Veera Simha Kadavarayan, carrying the weight of the story with intensity. Rakshana Indusudan as Draupathi Devi brings emotional strength and grace to her role. Natarajan Subramaniam appears convincing as the King, while Chirag Jani as Mohammad Bin Tughlaq and Dinesh Lamba as Ghiyasuddin Thamkani portray their characters with authority. Supporting actors like Deviyyani Sharma, Y.G. Mahendran, and Bharani add depth to the narrative.

On the technical side, Ghibran’s music effectively supports the film’s historical tone and emotional moments. Director G. Mohan deserves appreciation for attempting to present a lesser-explored part of Indian history, even though some commercial compromises are visible. Overall, Draupathi 2 is an ambitious historical drama that educates while entertaining, making it a notable attempt to showcase South Indian history on screen.
