Chandramukhi 2 Movie Review:
The actors Raghava Lawrence and Kangana
Ranaut have appeared in the second film, version 2,' The movie serves as a sequel to the 2005
Rajinikanth-starrer 'Chandramukhi,' directed by P. Vasu, which was a massive
success both critically and commercially. Unfortunately, 'Chandramukhi 2' falls
short of the high expectations set by its predecessor, as sequels often face
the challenge of living up to the original's legacy.
The film's
narrative revolves around the troubles of an affluent family who reunites with
estranged relatives to seek divine intervention for their problems. Little do
they know that this reunion will reignite a centuries-old feud between the
classical dancer Chandramukhi and the Vettaiyan king. When one family member
becomes possessed by Chandramukhi's spirit, the question arises as to whether
peace can be restored within the family.
'Chandramukhi' remains a fresh and memorable
story in the minds of many, primarily due to the stellar performances of
Rajinikanth and Jyotika. It was one of the top-grossing films in 2005 and found
success in multiple language remakes. Despite the same director, P. Vasu,
helming 'Chandramukhi 2,' the sequel fails to capture the magic of the
original.
The film is
constructed around five songs and three significant action sequences. However,
its horror elements, often a crucial aspect of such movies, appear to draw
inspiration from numerous other horror films, diminishing their impact.
In the performances, the lead actor Raghav Lawrence's acting style appears repetitive,
offering nothing new compared to his previous roles. Kangana Ranaut's foray
into the horror genre is notable from a career perspective, but her performance
in the Bharatnatyam scene is criticized as weak. The remaining cast's
performances are described as ordinary, and Kangana's fans may be left
disappointed after her previous film, 'Thalaivi.'
'Chandramukhi
2' attempts to blend horror, comedy, and action, creating a cocktail of genres.
However, this mixture is criticized for being poorly executed, and failing to
engage the audience.
The film's
music, composed by Oscar award winner MM Keeravani, does not feature any songs
that leave a lasting impact. 'Chandramukhi 2' ultimately falls short of expectations.
