Singapenne Movie Review:
The film, produced and directed by JSP Satish under the banner of JSP Film Studios and PVR Inox Pictures, centers on the journey of a talented young girl named Shilpa Manjunath, who defies her father's objections to pursue her passion for swimming in Chennai. Simultaneously, in the same town, another girl, portrayed by Aarthi, showcases remarkable skills in swimming, cycling, and running. However, Shilpa's aspirations face hurdles when her inebriated step-uncle tries to marry her off and takes her to Chennai for swimming training.
Amidst these challenges, an IAS officer intervenes, securing Shilpa a spot in higher education through the sports quota, sparking controversy. Undeterred, a determined swimming coach takes on the task of training Shilpa for a triathlon, despite her vulnerabilities resulting from an accident. The film delves into Shilpa's journey towards realizing her triathlon dream amidst the various obstacles she encounters along the way.
One of the film's notable strengths lies in the casting of Aarthi, a real-life triathlete, which lends authenticity to Shilpa's character. Furthermore, the inclusion of actual triathlon scenes enhances the film's realism, with commendations directed towards cinematographer Ekambaram and editor Praveen KL for their work. However, some critics point out weaknesses in the screenplay, citing a lack of originality and a formulaic storyline.
Despite these criticisms, the film is poised to resonate with audiences, particularly sports enthusiasts, advocates for women's rights, and individuals interested in themes of social justice. With its blend of sports drama, inspirational storytelling, and social commentary, the film offers a compelling narrative that celebrates resilience, determination, and the pursuit of one's dreams against all odds.
