Indian 2 Movie Review: Kamal Inspires as a Wide-ranging, Shankar charmed the screen.
Indian
2, Kamal Haasan returning as Senapathy. Alongside him, Siddharth and Rakul
Preet Singh take on pivotal roles, with the film being released on a pan-Indian
level. The question on everyone's minds is whether director Shankar has managed
to captivate the audience with this sequel.
The
story of Indian 2 begins with Chitra Arvind, played by Siddharth, a YouTuber
dedicated to exposing the offenses of corrupt officials. Through his channel,
Arvind sheds light on the injustices ordinary people face, increasing the number of enemies he and his team, including Aarti, played by
Priya Bhavani Shankar. This sets the stage for the return of Senapathy, a
general who re-emerges from Taipei City to combat corruption in India.
As
Senapathy takes down corrupt individuals, CBI officer Pramod, portrayed by
Bobby Simha, is hot on his trail, attempting to capture him. The film explores
whether Arvind has any connection to Senapathy's return and delves into the
reasons behind the youth's contempt for Arvind, who called for Senapathy’s
return with the trending hashtag #ComeBackIndian.
Throughout
the movie, Arvind grapples with personal demons, including the tragic suicide
of his mother and revelations about his father, played by Samuthirakani, who is
known for his honesty in the anti-corruption department. Rakul Preet Singh's
character, Disha, also plays a crucial role in assisting Arvind and his team in
their mission.
Director
Shankar is known for his unique style in commercial filmmaking, often
addressing social issues with a blend of commercial elements and technological
advancements. Indian 2 is no exception, as Shankar uses the character of
Senapathy to highlight the societal benefits of parents preventing their
children from engaging in corrupt and illegal activities.
Kamal
Haasan’s re-entry as Senapathy is marked by an impressive action scene where he
brings down a businessman fleeing abroad to avoid bank loans. This sets the
tone for the film, although some critics argue that the story becomes somewhat
routine thereafter. Despite this, the climax, heavily laden with action, is a
testament to Shankar’s grand vision, even if it feels a bit lengthy.
Siddharth
delivers a compelling performance, particularly in emotional scenes, while
Samuthirakani stands out as his father. Priya Bhavani Shankar and Rakul Preet
Singh's roles are routine but contribute to the narrative's
progression.
Overall,
Indian 2 manages to capture the essence of its predecessor while addressing
contemporary issues. The update on Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal’s characters
towards the end hints at a potential third installment, leaving the audience
with a sense of anticipation and excitement for what’s to come.
