Sabdham Movie Review: A Supernatural Thriller That Explores the Unseen

Directed by Arivazhagan and backed by the musical expertise of Thaman S, Shabtam is a spine-chilling supernatural thriller that keeps the audience on edge. Produced by 7G Films and 7G Siva, the film brings together an impressive ensemble cast, including Aadhi, Lakshmi Menon, Simran, Laila, Rajiv Menon, M.S. Bhaskar, Abinaya, Vivek Prasanna, and Redin Kingsley. Set in a medical college in Coonoor, the story unravels the eerie mystery surrounding the unexplained deaths of three students, leading to widespread fear and speculation about supernatural forces haunting the institution.

To dispel the growing panic, the college administration seeks the expertise of Aadhi, a researcher specializing in supernatural phenomena, who arrives from Mumbai to investigate the truth. As Aadhi delves into the unsettling occurrences at the college, he discovers that Lakshmi Menon, a professor and graduate student, is being followed by an unknown supernatural entity. What starts as an isolated case soon turns into a shocking revelation when Aadhi unearths the existence of not one but 42 restless souls haunting the premises.

The film uniquely employs the concept of Sabdham , an auditory technique that conveys the identities and tragic histories of these 42 spirits. As Aadhi pieces together their untold stories, the link between these tormented souls and the mysterious student deaths becomes evident, leading to a gripping climax. The screenplay maintains a tight narrative, ensuring that the suspense and intrigue remain intact, making Sabdham a compelling supernatural mystery.

Aadhi delivers a solid performance, effectively portraying a determined investigator navigating fear and logic in equal measure. Lakshmi Menon shines in her dual role as a professor and a graduate student entangled in the supernatural occurrences. Simran and Laila add depth with their seasoned presence, while Rajiv Menon’s portrayal adds gravitas to the unfolding mystery. The supporting cast, including M.S. Bhaskar, Abinaya, Vivek Prasanna, and Redin Kingsley, contribute commendably, enhancing the film’s eerie atmosphere with their nuanced performances.

Technically, Sabdham  excels in its sound design, an essential aspect of the film that plays a pivotal role in unraveling the mystery. Thaman S’s haunting background score heightens the tension, perfectly complementing the eerie visuals. Arivazhagan’s direction ensures that the suspense remains intact throughout, while the cinematography captures the misty, unsettling backdrop of Coonoor, adding to the film’s chilling effect. With a gripping narrative, strong performances, and stellar technical execution, Sabdham stands out as a well-crafted supernatural thriller that is sure to captivate audiences.
