Myyal Movie Review: Love Beyond Boundaries
Myyal Movie Review: Love Beyond
Boundaries
Myyal, directed by APG. Elumalai and
produced by Icon Cine Creations LLP, is a fantasy-romantic drama that blends
folklore with emotional depth. The film centers around Samriddhi Tara, a girl
gifted with magical powers, who lives in isolation with her grandmother, also a
sorceress. Cast out from the village due to fear of their powers and the threat
of rival sorcerers, their secluded existence creates an eerie and intriguing
atmosphere.
The calm of their hidden world is
disrupted by Sethu, a small-time thief struggling for survival. In a twist of
fate, he falls into a well near Samriddhi's home while fleeing from the police.
This accidental meeting becomes a turning point, as Samriddhi and her
grandmother offer him refuge despite their distrust of outsiders. The story
gradually unfolds into a touching tale of acceptance, mystery, and
transformation.
Samriddhi, unfamiliar with the outside
world, is initially cautious but gradually finds herself drawn to Sethu. Their
evolving relationship, rooted in vulnerability, secrecy, and defiance, forms
the emotional core of the film. The narrative questions whether love can
triumph over fear, superstition, and the boundaries between the magical and the
mundane.
The cast delivers grounded performances
that elevate the film’s fantastical premise. Sethu brings raw charm and
sincerity to his role, while Samriddhi Tara is both ethereal and emotionally
engaging. Notable supporting roles by P.L. Thenappan, Late Super Good Subramani,
Rathnakala, and C.M. Bala lend credibility and depth to the ensemble, anchoring
the narrative in realism amidst magical elements.
Technically, Myyal is well-executed.
Director APG. Elumalai succeeds in bringing a fresh visual language and
emotional rhythm to the story. The screenplay and dialogues, penned by
acclaimed writer Jeyamohan, are poetic yet grounded. Cinematographer Bala
Palaniyappan captures the contrast between the mystical world and rural realism
beautifully. The hauntingly effective music by Amargeeth. S adds emotional
weight, and editor Vetri Shanmugam ensures the story flows seamlessly. Backed
by producers Anupama Vikram Singh and Venugopal.R, and promoted by PROs Suresh
Chandra and Abdul Nassar, Myyal is a commendable attempt at storytelling that
dares to be different.
