Narivettai  Movie Review: "Justice in Uniform: Tovino Thomas Leads a Gripping Uprising in This Riveting Social Drama"

Directed by Anuraj Manohar and produced by Tippu Shah and Shiyas Hassan under the banner of Indian Cinema Company, this gripping political drama was released on 23 May 2025 and runs for 138 minutes. The film features stellar performances by Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Cheran, with music composed by Jakes Bejoy. Cinematography by Vijay and editing by Shameer Muhammad add technical finesse to the narrative. The cast and crew deliver a powerful and compelling cinematic experience, effectively combining intense storytelling with emotional depth.

The film opens with a tense atmosphere as the indigenous people of a forested region engage in small-scale protests, demanding their right to livelihood. Simultaneously, the protagonist, played by Tovino Thomas, is seen hiding with a bag in hand, while the police are actively searching for him. This suspenseful beginning sets the tone for a gripping tale that unfolds through a flashback, leading viewers into the events that shaped his current predicament.

In the flashback, Tovino’s character is informed that he is eligible for a prestigious government position. However, due to manipulation and deception by those close to him, including his girlfriend, he ends up taking a job as a constable. Despite the simplicity of his role, Tovino’s strong sense of justice lands him in trouble when he confronts and attacks someone in uniform, an act that earns him a stern warning from a senior officer.

As discontent brews within the police department, Tovino and several other officers begin to plan a large-scale protest. Their movement mirrors the initial resistance by the forest dwellers, drawing a parallel between the two struggles. This section of the story draws attention to institutional hypocrisy and the systemic challenges faced by honest individuals within the force.

When Tovino travels to the site of the planned protest, he is thrust into a series of transformative events. These experiences alter the course of his life and reveal the deeper socio-political conflicts that lie beneath the surface. The narrative intensifies as the mystery behind why the police are after him is unraveled, culminating in a thought-provoking climax that ties back to the film's powerful opening. The film leaves audiences questioning authority, justice, and the price of standing up for one’s beliefs.
