Kuberaa Movie Review: Dhanush Transforms from Beggar to Game-Changer in This Explosive Thriller!

Kuberaa, starring Dhanush in the lead role, is an intense socio-political thriller that delves into the dark world of corruption, money laundering, and survival. The film opens with a powerful sequence showcasing a corrupt politician and a multi-millionaire plotting an illegal financial operation. To carry out this audacious plan, they involve a disgraced CBI officer who is currently serving a prison sentence. The narrative swiftly introduces Nagarjuna's character, Deepak, who becomes the mastermind behind the laundering network.

To execute the massive illegal money transaction, Deepak recruits four unsuspecting beggars as benami fronts. One of them, Deva (played by Dhanush), is picked from the holy city of Tirupati. These innocent men are merely pawns in a grander scheme, once the money is successfully laundered, the masterminds plan to eliminate them to erase all traces. However, the plot takes a gripping turn as Deva begins to navigate and challenge the system he's thrust into, making Kuberaa a journey of resilience against an empire of greed.

Dhanush once again proves his mettle with a layered and emotionally driven performance. As Deva, he brings vulnerability, strength, and a sense of grounded realism that makes the character highly relatable. Rashmika Mandanna delivers a composed and elegant portrayal of Sameera, adding emotional depth to the film. Nagarjuna, in the role of Deepak, showcases a restrained yet commanding presence, effectively portraying a morally ambiguous figure. Supporting actors like Jim Sarbh (as Neeraj), Sayaji Shinde, and Sunaina leave a strong impact, particularly in key turning points.

On the technical front, Kuberaa is bolstered by Devi Sri Prasad’s background score and songs, which cater well to Tamil sensibilities. His compositions strike a harmonious balance, avoiding the excessive loudness seen in his previous works like Ganuguva. The cinematography by Niketh Bommireddy captures both the grime and the grandeur of the story's settings with finesse, while Karthika Srinivas’s editing keeps the 184-minute runtime engaging and tight, despite its ambitious length.

Directed by Sekhar Kammula, who also co-wrote the film with Chaithanya Pingali, Kuberaa marks a compelling entry into the thriller genre with social undertones. Dialogues penned by Agoram Panneerselvam (Tamil version) lend regional authenticity and emotional resonance. Produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations, this film is a technically sound and emotionally rich experience that explores the dynamics of power, poverty, and resistance. Releasing on June 20, 2025, Kuberaa is a bold and well-crafted narrative that resonates long after the credits roll.
