Thirukural Movie Review: Verses and Valor: The Legend of Thiruvalluvar"

A Tale of Wisdom Amidst War, set in the ancient land of Valluva Nadu, the story follows the legendary Thiruvalluvar, who embarks on writing the timeless Thirukkural while also teaching Tamil to young minds. Amidst this intellectual and spiritual pursuit, a fierce war erupts between the noble kingdom where Valluvar resides and a power-hungry king who rises through treachery. The core of the narrative revolves around whether Thiruvalluvar completes his literary masterpiece and what fate befalls the warring kingdoms. The film explores the clash between wisdom and war, integrity and ambition, culminating in a powerful conclusion that weaves history and imagination.

Kalaichochola impressively portrays Thiruvalluvar with dignity and restraint, while Dhanalakshmi delivers a graceful performance as Vasuki, his devoted wife. Kunababu brings intensity to the role of Parithi, with strong support from Yasar as his loyal friend. Patini Kumar and Haritha Sri lend emotional depth as Pavalakkodi and her friend, adding warmth to the storyline. Standout performances also come from Subramania Siva as the wise poet Nakkirar and Kottachi as the eloquent Perunthalaichathanar. Aravind Andavar as Kumanan and Chandru as Sangu Maran add dramatic gravitas, while Sukanya, Aruvi Anandan, and Indumathi contribute strongly in their respective roles.

Technical Excellence and Artistic Contributions
The film's soul is enriched by the legendary Isaignani Ilayaraja, who has composed both the music and lyrics, enhancing the emotional and historical weight of the narrative. Edwin's cinematography captures the grandeur and cultural texture of ancient Tamilakam with finesse, while director Suresh Galeriyum skillfully balances drama, history, and philosophy. Costume designer Suresh Kumarum deserves applause for authentically recreating the period aesthetics. A special acknowledgment goes to Madurai D.P. Rajendran for his significant contribution to the production, ensuring historical and artistic integrity throughout.
