Angammal, presented by Stone Bench Films in association with Njoy Films and Firo Movie Station, is directed and written for the screen by Vipin Radhakrishnan from a story by Perumal Murugan. The film is produced by Kaarthekeyen S, Firoz Rahim, and Anjoy Samuel, with music composed by Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor. At the heart of the film stands Geetha Kailasam, who plays the title character Angammal, supported strongly by Saran Shakthi as Pavalam and Bharani as Sudalai.

The story takes place in a quiet rural village and follows Angammal, a hardworking mother raising two sons with different dreams. Pavalam, the younger one, studies in the city to become a doctor, while the elder son Sudalai stays in the village to take care of farming and continues his passion for playing the nadaswaram. When Pavalam returns home after completing his studies, he seeks his mother’s permission for his love and engagement, expecting a happy reunion. But he is shocked to see that Angammal still follows a traditional habit of not wearing a blouse, which becomes a point of conflict.

This simple issue, deeply connected to Angammal’s cultural values, becomes the film’s emotional core. Pavalam insists that she wear a blouse for his engagement, but Angammal struggles between her son’s expectations and her own comfort, shaped by long-held rural traditions. The film moves gently through the question of whether Angammal will finally agree to change her way of dressing or stay true to her beliefs, making the climax meaningful and personal.

The performances elevate the film’s emotional depth. Geetha Kailasam delivers a powerful and realistic portrayal of Angammal, capturing both her strength and vulnerability. Saran Shakthi brings sincerity to the role of Pavalam, especially in the scenes where he tries to balance love, respect, and embarrassment. Bharani as Sudalai, Thendral Raghunathan as Shaaradha, Yasmine as Manju, Mullaiyarasi, and Vinod as Kaalimuthu all add natural and believable touches to the village atmosphere.

The technical team supports the storytelling well. The music by Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor blends smoothly with the rural setting, while the natural village visuals, the way people speak, and the simple lifestyle are shown without exaggeration. The film respectfully highlights the traditions, feelings, and struggles of rural women, keeping the narrative rooted and honest. Angammal releases on 5 December 2025 and stands out as a realistic portrayal of culture, family, and identity.
