A Journey Through Power and Vision
RMV – THE KINGMAKER is a Tamil
docu-feature film that explores the life and political journey of R. M.
Veerappan, one of the most influential figures in Tamil Nadu politics. During
the press show, producer Mr. Thangaraj Veerappan, son of R. M. Veerappan, along
with director Binu Subramaniyam, participated and explained how this
documentary was created and the intention behind presenting RMV’s legacy to the
public.
The documentary traces the complete
lifespan of R. M. Veerappan and highlights how he rose to prominence through
dedication, strategy, and leadership. Several political leaders, cinema
personalities, professors, and journalists share their experiences and memories
of working closely with him. Senior leader Sengottaiyan speaks in detail about
RMV’s political journey, while other political figures also recall his
influence and fame across party lines.
The film strongly highlights RMV’s key
role in Tamil Nadu politics. He supported M. G. Ramachandran (MGR) during
crucial political phases and later extended the same support to J. Jayalalithaa
in her political career. RMV served as a Cabinet Minister in five governments
between 1977 and 1996, was a three-time Member of the Legislative Council, and
a two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Leader of
the House and the AIADMK leader in the Legislative Council, and was
instrumental in organizing the party by uniting MGR fan clubs. Due to his sharp
political strategies, he was widely referred to as the “Chanakya of AIADMK
politics” during the 1970s and 1980s.
Apart from political leaders, noted cinema
personalities such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Sarathkumar
share their personal memories and respect for RMV. Academicians, including Professor
Thamizhachi Thangapandian and other professors, speak about their journey with
him. The documentary also mentions his association with DMK, AIADMK, and MGR
Kazhagam. RMV lived a long life and passed away at the age of 97. The film
concludes by stating that this documentary will be highly useful for the younger
generation to understand RMV’s life and contribution, with his son delivering
an emotional closing speech.
