Story & Review:
Lockdown is a film inspired by real-life
events, set in 2020, just months before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world
to a standstill.
Anitha
(Anupama Parameswaran) is a young woman from a middle-class family, struggling
to find a job while dealing with strict restrictions imposed by her parents due
to their night-shift work schedule. During one of her job-hunting attempts, she
unexpectedly ends up at a party and gets intoxicated for the first time in her
life.
Nearly
three months later, Anitha makes a shocking discovery, one that turns her life
upside down. Before she can process or share the truth with her family, the
lockdown is announced. Trapped inside her home, bound by restrictions, and
emotionally isolated, Anitha finds herself forced to confront a mysterious and
life-altering challenge she never saw coming.
The film
explores how lockdown, meant to ensure safety, becomes a psychological prison
for Anitha as her life spirals into uncertainty.
Performances
& Technical Aspects:
Anupama
Parameswaran delivers a restrained yet emotionally powerful performance,
carrying the film with conviction. Charle and Nirosha provide solid support as
concerned parents, while Livingston fits well into his role as a corporate
authority figure.
N. R.
Raghunanthan’s music and background score subtly enhance the tension and
emotional depth of the narrative. Director AR Jeeva effectively captures the
anxiety, silence, and emotional strain of pre-pandemic uncertainty.
Verdict:
Lockdown is not just a Covid-related
drama, it is a thought-provoking emotional thriller that sheds light on unspoken
fears, social pressure, and isolation. A film that resonates quietly but leaves
a lasting impact.
Worth a
watch for its realism and strong central performance.
