Kaalidas 2 Tamil Movie Review: Bharath Leads an Engaging Crime Thriller
Kaalidas 2 Tamil Movie Review: Bharath Leads an Engaging Crime Thriller
Kaalidas
2 is a thriller that
comes in a slightly different format from usual investigative films.
Directed by Sri Senthil, the movie brings back Bharath Srinivasan as Inspector
Kaalidas. Releasing on April 3, 2026, the film aims to present a layered mystery
with emotional depth and suspense.
Bharath
delivers a sincere and controlled performance as a cop, showing maturity in his
role. His character works under Assistant Commissioner Vaishnavi, played by
Bhavani Sre, who gives a neat and composed performance. Their combination adds
strength to the investigative portions of the film.
The story is
set in a luxurious apartment during a New Year celebration on December 31 2025.
Sangeetha, who plays an apartment secretary, gathers residents for the
celebration. Families, including Abarnathi and her husband Gokul (played by
Ananth Nag), join the event along with their young daughter Mithra, who is
always seen carrying a toy dog.
As the
celebration progresses, a man named Stephen, played by Ajay Karthi, is seen
observing the child. In a crucial moment, the little girl follows Stephen’s dog
into his house. Once she enters, the door closes, and soon after, the child
goes missing, turning the joyful night into a tense situation.
The
apartment residents begin searching for the child, and eventually, the police
are informed. Inspector Kaalidas and his team arrive and start the
investigation. Initially, suspicion falls heavily on Stephen, and the first
half of the film focuses on building this doubt and tension among the
characters.
However, in
the second half, the story takes a turn as the investigation reveals that
Stephen may not be the culprit. The focus then shifts towards other residents,
including Abarnathi and Sangeetha, making the mystery more engaging. The film
maintains suspense by constantly raising questions about who could be
responsible.
Sangeetha makes
a notable comeback and delivers a graceful and mature performance. Her presence
is strongly felt throughout the film, with many scenes focusing on her
character. A nostalgic touch is added with her famous song “Sollamale Yaar
Parthathu” from the movie Poove Unakkaga, which reminds the audience of her
earlier days in cinema.
Technically,
the film benefits from the music composed by Sam C. S., whose background score
effectively supports the suspense and emotional moments. Overall, Kaalidas 2
keeps the audience guessing about the killer, with an engaging investigation
and decent performances from the cast, including Prakash Raj and T.M. Karthik.
It is an interesting thriller that works mainly because of its mystery and
character-driven storytelling.
