Engal Thangam Tamil Movie Review: Samantha Shines in This
Family Action Entertainer
Engal Thangam is the Tamil-dubbed version of the Telugu film Maa
Inti Bangaaram. The movie is a family entertainer that blends comedy, action,
emotion, and suspense. The story revolves around Swarna, a woman with a painful
past who struggles to protect her family from dangerous enemies while seeking acceptance in her new home.
Samantha plays the lead role in two different phases of her
life. In her past, she was known as Jhansi, and after marriage, she became Swarna. Samantha looks beautiful in traditional costumes and carries both the
emotional and action-oriented scenes with confidence. Her performance strengthens the character and keeps the audience engaged throughout the film.
Swarna grew up in an orphanage along with her friend
Kiranmayi. One day, Kiranmayi is adopted by a family, while Swarna goes missing
from the orphanage. After escaping, she falls into the hands of Karuna, who
raises her and trains her for his own purposes. Later, Jhansi realizes that
Karuna is not a good person and is not working for the welfare of society. She
decides to escape from him and starts a new life after marrying Anirudh.
Diganth Manchale plays Anirudh, Swarna's husband. He delivers
a decent performance and supports the story well. After marriage, Swarna
travels with Anirudh to attend a family wedding. However, she struggles to gain
acceptance from her in-laws, as most family members do not welcome her as their
daughter-in-law.
Since Swarna does not know much about family traditions and
household customs, she faces several challenges. The only appreciation she
receives comes from the family because of her efforts in managing the kitchen
and helping with household responsibilities. These situations create many
humorous moments that bring light-hearted entertainment to the film.
A major comedy track involves Swarna and her childhood friend
Kiranmayi. To impress the family, Kiranmayi secretly cooks food while staying
in a lodge, and the dishes are brought to Swarna's in-laws' house without
anyone knowing. Swarna serves the food and receives praise from the family.
These scenes add fun and laughter while also showing Swarna's desire to earn
love and respect from her new family.
The second half gradually reveals Swarna's past and the
danger posed by Karuna. Seeking revenge, Karuna targets Swarna's family. At the
same time, Swarna's father-in-law, Ramaya Raju, a politically influential
person, uncovers a political scam. This brings further trouble to the family
and increases the tension in the story.
Technically, the film balances family drama, comedy, and
action effectively. The supporting cast contributes well to the narrative,
while Samantha remains the biggest strength of the movie. The film succeeds in
presenting a mix of emotional family moments, humorous situations, and
action-packed sequences. Overall, Engal Thangam is an entertaining family
action drama that focuses on courage, family values, and a woman's
determination to protect her loved ones.
