Noorusami Tamil Movie Review: A Wedding Journey Longer Than the Wedding
Noorusami Tamil Movie Review: A Wedding Journey Longer Than
the Wedding
Noorusami is a rural family drama written and directed by
Sasi. The film is inspired by a real-life story in which Selvi remarried
Elumalai in 2019. While the subject of remarriage and social acceptance has
strong emotional potential, the film takes its own sweet time to reach its
destination, making the audience feel every step of Selvi's long journey.
Swasika plays Selvi, a single mother raising two sons under
difficult circumstances. She delivers a sincere performance and carries much of
the film on her shoulders. Her character faces challenges from society, family
members, and almost everyone around her. At times, it feels as if the entire
village has nothing better to do than discuss Selvi's personal life. Swasika
handles the emotional scenes well and gives the film whatever energy it has.
Ajay Dhishan plays Baskar, Selvi's elder son. Initially, he
strongly opposes his mother's decision to remarry. Like many movie sons, wisdom
arrives only after getting a job. Once he starts working, he suddenly realizes
that companionship is important for his mother. The transformation is
understandable, though it arrives a little too conveniently. Sakthi, as the
younger son Vivek, provides support to the family portions of the story.
The film revolves around Selvi's wish to remarry at the age
of 35. Ironically, by the time everyone around her finishes discussing,
arguing, and objecting to the idea, she is already 42 and no longer interested
in marriage. Then comes another twist, her son becomes more determined about
her marriage than she is. The story repeatedly reminds us that convincing
society is apparently harder than raising two children alone.
Director Sasi focuses heavily on social attitudes toward
single mothers and remarriage. The message is clear and relevant, but the
screenplay occasionally stretches situations longer than necessary. Some scenes
feel designed to prove the same point again and again, just in case the
audience somehow missed it the first few times. However, the emotional core of
the story remains relatable and meaningful.
On the technical side, Balaji Sriram's music supports the
rural setting effectively, while the production by Vijay Antony Film
Corporation and Meera Vijay Antony presents the story in a grounded manner.
Overall, Noorusami is a film with a good intention and an important message. It
succeeds in highlighting society's double standards, although the audience may
feel that the road to Selvi's wedding is almost as challenging as the wedding
itself.
